The Alexandria City Public School (ACPS) system provides top educational facilities and teaching. Alexandria has approximately 11,000 students in 13 elementary schools, two middle schools, a special ninth grade school, and alternative high school, and a main high school. The elementary and secondary school program receives much community support from over 2,500 volunteers, 150 businesses, and community partnerships who work together to ensure every child receives the top education possible. Alexandria is one of the highest technology ranking school systems in Virginia with its digital video production facilities and state-of-the-art computer labs. Alexandria’s only high school, T.C. Williams, is one of the first schools in the nation to offer a laptop computer to everyone of its students. T.C. Williams received national recognition when they featured in Walt Disney’s Remember the Titans with their legendary football coach Herman Boone.
Higher Education: Northern Virginia Community College Alexandria is a two year institution that is one of five Northern Virginia campuses. Associate degree and certificate programs are available and the college offers technical, occupations, developmental, and university transfer programs. NVCC also offers home study or distance learning courses through cassette tapes, radio, printed material, and television.
The George Washington University’s Alexandria Graduate Education Center offers nine master’s degree programs in areas like engineering, management, and human resource development. The Center has developed many partnerships with corporations, technology firms, and other professional associations in order to further its educational and certification programs.
Regent University is a Christian graduate school has an extension campus in Alexandria. The university combines quality education with biblical teachings. It offers over 20 graduate programs online and has a diversified enrollment from all 50 states and over 50 countries.
Strayer University has been dedicated to providing quality education to its students for over 110 years since its founding in 1892. Strayer has 15 different campuses and opened their campus in Alexandria in 2002.
The Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria is one of eleven Episcopal seminaries in the country that enrolls students from every province of the Church as well as from foreign countries.
